Furthermore, duvet days instil a culture of integrity. Instead of calling in and having to make up an excuse for being off, the employee self-designating a duvet day allows them to be decent and honest. Equally, if an employee is simply not in the right frame of mind to come into work, it can be argued that they are better staying off anyway.

At the beginning of the year when we formed the Oakland Group we created a new mission statement and set of values. Part of our mission statement was
‘to provide an outstanding service to candidates’
Part of our mission statement was ‘to provide an outstanding service to candidates’
Here’s just one example of we implement this.
Received from a candidate this morning:
“As promised I am just dropping you an email to say how impressed and touched I was at Michaela’s thoughtfulness.
In case you don’t know the background – I was meant to be going for an interview in Trentham. Unfortunately a strong bout of food poisoning meant I couldn’t attend, and I have been so ill and weak recently, even lifting my head up has been a struggle.
When I improved a bit – and finally got round to going online, I found lovely messages and missed calls from Michaela as to whether I was safe, and I must say her concern has really moved me. Most agencies wouldn’t have given it a second thought, and the priority would have been smoothing things over with the client. So not only did she do her best to get me an interview at the shortest possible notice, but she also had the kindness and decency to enquire about me when I was a no show!
Like I said in my email to Michaela, I am not going to arrange any more interviews until I have 100% recovered, as I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep. I just wanted to let you know in writing what a sterling member of staff you have working for you.”
Well done Michaela
70th Birthday HAPPY BIRTHDAY MO
Mo our longest serving staff member turned 70 this week. We would like to wish her a very happy birthday. We celebrated her birthday with a surprise party. She had a beautiful cake and a spa day voucher – Mo has never had her nails done or any treatments so we think she will enjoy her at Grace Beauty Therapies.
To improve staff benefits and take the stress out of every day life, we understand life at times can get difficult and stressful. We have now given all staff 2 duvet days each year, I think all staff will agree with me that this is a welcomed benefit when working for The Oakland Group. A recent study has shown that
‘Duvet days enhance productivity. That’s because staff feel that they are being treated with respect. They are being allowed to decide if they don’t want to work that day rather than having to call in and pretend to be sick or somehow otherwise justify their need for leave.
